I want to thank you for your kind consideration of, and decision to serve with our chapter as a volunteer. By doing so you will be supporting the important mission of the American Red Cross.

On July 1, 2006 a new mandate came down from our American National Red Cross requiring that all staff and volunteers working with the American Red Cross undergo a background check.

It can be completed by yourself from any computer with internet access. If you do not have internet access at home you may come into the chapter and use any available computer to enter your information. To initiate your background check:

1. Visit the vendor’s website at www.mybackgroundcheck.com by following this link
2. Once at the site, click on the American Red Cross, Background Check Initiatives box at the lower right hand corner.
3. Then select Reguest A Background Check.
4. Then select the state of Illinois.
5. Then select the Southwestern Illinois Chapter which is third from the bottom.
6.Then Click here to get started.
7.Read with care your rights & provide your consent to the check.
8 . Enter your personal information requested including your name, date of birth, social security
number, and driver’s license number ( if you have one).
9 . Wait to hear about the results from myself or the vendor.
10 . If you dispute the results of the background check for any reason, follow the instructions
provided by the vendor.

Additionally a new National Background Check Office has been created and is being staffed with professionals who can address your questions at 800-507-3060. Office hours are M-F 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. eastern standard time. For any technical questions about the website the vendor can be reached at 800-503-2364 (ext.406).

While this is a change requiring many long-time Red Crossers to initiate background checks, it is a positive action that will benefit each of us, bring consistency to our background check policy, and signal our organization’s commitment to its customers and donors.

When a victim of a house fire or a hurricane needs help, they know they can trust a Red Crosser. Donors can rest assured that when they give to the Red Cross, their blood or money is protected. And when an individual makes a decision to volunteer or work for the Red Cross, they know they are in trusted company. Thank you for taking the time to complete your background check.
